TeachTales
GT School, Inc. / LearnWith.AI (Alpha School ecosystem) · Grades 1–6
Early readers who'd rather write the adventure than read assigned pages — with flags parents should read first
Free tier, then $9.99/month or $89.99/year (one purchase covers unlimited kids)
Overview
An AI story-building app where your child becomes the author — co-writing choose-your-own-adventure stories starring things they love, with comprehension questions woven in and reading level adapting automatically. Built by the team behind Alpha School.
⚑ Privacy flag: read before signing up
This app's own App Store privacy label discloses data used to track users — identifiers, location, and contact info linked to identity, for advertising — on an app made for 6-to-12-year-olds. We think you should know that before your child writes their first story.
⚑ Reliability flag: read before signing up
The most common review complaint is stories that never finish loading; the App Store rating sits at 2.5 stars (small sample). Use the free tier to test it thoroughly before paying.
Strengths
- •The idea is genuinely lovely: kids learn to love reading by writing what they love
- •Lexile-adaptive — passages meet your child at their actual level
- •Ad-free reading experience; one purchase covers unlimited kids
Limitations
- •Rewards include Robux (Roblox currency), which some families would rather keep out of reading time
- •Leans on branded characters (Harry Potter, Pokemon, Marvel) — engaging, but a licensing question long-term
- •Nothing replaces reading with a caring adult — Alpha's own founder says so. Treat this as extra reps, not the main event
Best fit for
- •Reluctant readers ages 6–12 who light up at being the author
- •Families wanting extra reading reps between read-aloud time
- •Fans of the Alpha School approach who want a piece of it at home
The honest read
The most charming idea on this list — your kid as the author — wearing data practices we can't pretend not to see. Built by the Alpha School team, and it shows in both the ambition and the rough edges. Test the free tier hard, and read our flags first.
