What a learning pod is
A learning pod is a small group of children, typically 3 to 8, who learn together with one educator. The families decide the size, the schedule and where the pod meets: a home, a park, a studio or online. A full academic pod typically costs $500 to $800 a month per family. BOWER is free to browse, and you pay only when you book an educator. You can join a pod that's already forming on Find a Pod, or start your own with Build a Pod and invite the families you know.
One path, four simple steps.
Understand your family, connect with aligned educators and families, build your pod, and keep it running. BOWER supports every step.
What We Do
BOWER makes learning pods work.
Learning pods are small groups of children, taught by teachers they know by name, in homes and studios across your neighborhood. A pod is typically three to eight children, and families decide the size, so a teacher can follow each child's pace and interests.
The challenge has never been desire. Families want this. Teachers want this. Children thrive in this. The challenge is logistics: finding the right teacher, assembling compatible families, agreeing on a schedule, handling payments, and knowing what to do when things get complicated.
That's what BOWER does. We're a two-sided marketplace: we connect families with educators we approve by hand, we give families the compatibility profiles to form pods with the right people, and we provide the governance infrastructure that turns a great idea into a learning community that lasts.

Explore for camps & providers →For Families
Find your teacher. Form your pod. Then keep it together.
BOWER is built for both sides of the table: the family looking for a teacher, and the parents ready to build a pod together. Same infrastructure for either path.
Educators approved by hand
BOWER's founder approves every educator profile by hand before it goes live. Browse by subject, philosophy, age range, neighborhood. Read their approach. See their curriculum. One click to express interest.
Private by design
Your family's data is yours. We host only what you choose to share, whether assessments, journals, or records, and never sell it or repurpose it.
Know who you're building with
Every BOWER family can take the free Compass, a compatibility profile covering parenting style, educational philosophy, and expectations. Your profile stays private to your family. If your pod orders a founding agreement, your answers help shape it, so it names the similarities and the differences from the start. You decide who you build with.
Governance that prevents collapse
Every BOWER pod receives a founding agreement, a financial framework, a communication charter, a continuity plan, and hosting guidelines. These aren't templates. They're the lessons from pods that succeeded, and from pods that didn't.
Ongoing support
Session journals from your teacher after every class. Attendance tracking. BOWER doesn't disappear after matchmaking. We're infrastructure for the life of your pod.
For Educators
Teach the way you became a teacher to teach.
BOWER is built for two kinds of educators. Lead Academic Instructors are credentialed teachers who run the core academic week, the foundation everything else builds on. Enrichment Specialists are skilled professionals who bring focused expertise: cooking, languages, art, music, STEAM, movement, or any subject that makes a pod worth showing up for.
Both get the same thing: families who chose you, children excited to learn, and a platform that handles the business side so you can focus on the craft.
Discovery
Your profile, philosophy, and curriculum are searchable by families in your area. You can also browse and apply to pods that are actively seeking educators.
Scheduling & Payments
BOWER gives you tools to manage enrollment, session scheduling, attendance tracking, and payment processing. All in one place.
Curriculum Marketplace
Package your lesson plans, outlines, and materials into digital products. Sell them to other educators and families from your BOWER profile.
Professional Community
Session journal tools and attendance tracking. The professional infrastructure independent teachers have never had.
What Makes BOWER Different
Pod management is hard. We built the tools so you don't have to.
The pods our founder watched fall apart didn't fail because of bad teachers or uncommitted families. They failed because of missing infrastructure. Nobody wrote down who pays what. Nobody planned for the family that moves mid-year. Nobody addressed the gap between two families who think differently about discipline, homework, screen time. Until those gaps cost the pod its trust.
BOWER exists because our founder lived this. She built a thriving pod school in Topanga. She watched other pods around her fall apart for reasons that were entirely predictable and entirely avoidable.
Every feature on this platform maps to a real failure mode:
Verbal understandings evaporate
Founding Agreements
Written commitments on roles, schedule, values, and expectations. Signed before your first session.
Nobody planned for departure
Continuity Framework
Notice periods, replacement family protocols, minimum enrollment thresholds, and transition plans.
Families discover differences too late
Compatibility Profiles
Five-dimensional family profiling across parenting style, emotional approach, educational philosophy, developmental expectations, and collaborative orientation. Private to your family. If your pod orders a founding agreement, your answers help shape it.
Money gets awkward
Financial Framework
Clear payment structures, teacher compensation, supply budgets, and late-payment policies. Defined upfront.
Communication breaks down
Communication Charter
Weekly update templates, parent-teacher conference cadence, conflict resolution pathways, and decision-making processes.
Hosting becomes uneven
Hosting Guidelines
Rotation schedules, space requirements, supply responsibilities, and fair distribution of the hosting burden.
Pricing
Built to be accessible.
BOWER is free for families to browse and explore. When you're ready to work with an educator, you pay them directly through the platform. No subscriptions. No commitments. Typically $500–800 per month per family for a full academic pod, which is a fraction of private school tuition for a much better student-to-teacher ratio.

Our Founder
"Community is the most valuable currency on earth."
BOWER's founder runs a pod school in Topanga, California, where a small group of children attend academic instruction three days a week and enrichment two days a week. Within one semester, my son's MAP scores placed him in the 87th percentile of the grade above. What began as one family's search for something better became a conviction: a small class, run by families who know each other, can give children the attention many parents go to private school looking for.
The world is changing faster than schools can adapt. Families sense it. The best educators sense it too. What's emerging, quietly, in living rooms and gardens across the country, is a new model. Built on trust. Built on community rather than compliance. BOWER is the infrastructure for that movement. Not because the old way is broken (though it is), but because something better is already growing.
Build something better.
BOWER serves families and educators across the country. If you're a family looking for a teacher, a group ready to form a pod, or an educator building an independent practice, write to us.
