Kim A. Howe · Moving Beyond the Page · Grades PreK-9
Gifted/advanced learners (1-2 grades ahead) wanting interdisciplinary, hands-on, conceptual curriculum with depth over breadth
$200-400/year
Overview
Beyond the Page (formally Moving Beyond the Page) was designed by educator Kim A. Howe specifically for academically gifted children, ages 4 through 13, with two activity options per lesson so siblings within a 1-2 year range can work together. Each three-week unit centers on a single piece of children's literature and grows interdisciplinary work (science, social studies, language arts, art) out of that book. Science kits and books are included, making the program turnkey for the right family. It's accelerated by design; grade-level kids will struggle and parents may blame themselves rather than the fit.

The honest read
Hits a rare sweet spot: secular + literature-rich + hands-on + gifted-appropriate. Parents fall in love because there's almost nothing else like it in the market. But it IS for advanced learners. Grade-level kids will struggle and parents will blame themselves. The depth-over-breadth approach means less review, which suits quick processors but fails kids who need repetition.
