Motivated middle and high schoolers building college-level vocabulary ten minutes a day; strong for SAT/ACT prep and English-language learners
$6/month on the 12-month plan ($29 single month); free 3-day trial
Overview
A vocabulary builder grounded in real learning science: spaced repetition and retrieval practice that re-exposes your child to a word right as they're about to forget it. Adapts to each learner's level, from English-language learners to advanced readers.
Strengths
- •The learning science is genuinely sound — spaced, retrieval-based practice that builds long-term retention
- •Adapts from ELL learners to advanced students automatically
- •Ten focused minutes a day is the whole ask
- •At $6/month annual, one of the cheapest serious academic tools anywhere
Limitations
- •We'll be honest, because the students certainly are: many find it tedious. This is strength training, not a game
- •Feedback on wrong answers is thin; the interface is dated
- •Wrong fit for young kids or reluctant learners who need engagement to stay in the chair
Best fit for
- •Motivated middle and high schoolers doing real vocabulary work
- •SAT/ACT preparation
- •English-language learners building academic vocabulary
The honest read
The learning science is real and the students' complaints are real too. Strength training, not a game: ten focused minutes a day quietly builds a college-level vocabulary. If your kid needs the work disguised as fun, this isn't it.
